Manchester City may have happier memories of their more recent trip to Wembley after the FA Cup heartache of last season, but Vincent Kompany still believes that loss to Wigan Athletic should not be forgotten.
In quotes published by the Daily Star, the Belgian defender said, “I think we should still carry that game with us.
“It was a learning experience for us, not just for now but for the future.”
But that is not to say Kompany was not basking in the afterglow of a cup win.
“This is a fantastic trophy for us,” he added. “Now we will get back and work hard to make sure we can keep the momentum.”
Given the way City came back at Sunderland with two outstanding strikes and a fine break-away goal, Sunday really could be a catalyst for an exciting end to the season for Manuel Pellegrini’s men.
In more League Cup final news, the Daily Mail has published a series of pictures showing the City players celebrating after their success.
They include Vincent Kompany giving a speech and the City captain in the company of former Oasis star and avid Blue Noel Gallagher.
The defender has already revealed he is unsure what the future holds with his City contract expiring in the summer. But the Turkish side continue to be linked with the England international although he is likely to have more offers on the table when the time does come to leave the Etihad.
