VIDEO: Liverpool outcast commits game-changing blunder

Pepe Reina's first half error handed Livorno a point as Napoli failed to close the gap on leaders Juventus at the top of Serie A.

Dries Mertens' penalty gave Rafa Benitez's side a lead just after the half hour mark, but a hilarious Reina mistake cost Napoli two points in a game they really needed to win to maintain hopes of catching Juventus. Antonio Conte's side have now moved 11 points clear at the top of Serie A, and it doesn't look like anybody will be catching them - particularly after this Reina gaffe.

Having made a smart save at the near post, Reina lost track of the ball and managed to comically nudge the ball over his own goal line with his arm to draw Livorno level.

Reina was loaned out to Napoli after the arrival of Simon Mignolet at Anfield, with Reds manager Brendan Rodgers choosing to go with the Belgian rather than the error-prone Spaniard. Yet, Mignolet hasn't been without his critics this season, and many Liverpool fans have stated that they would rather have Reina back in net at Anfield.

However, the criticism for Mignolet has mostly been because of his poor command of his area rather than making costly errors. Centre back Kolo Toure has been criticised of late for his mistakes in the Liverpool backline as Rodgers' side lodge a late title bid, and Reina's latest blunder would suggest that Rodgers may have made the right decision in both the short and the long term.
