Football can make managers and players do stupid things in the heat of the moment, but Pardew’s alleged head-butt appears to have taken stupidity to a whole new level.
In fairness, the Newcastle manager was quick to realise to folly of his actions, and came out quickly after the game to acknowledge his actions and state his regrets.
Pardew told Sky Sports: 'I tried to ease him (Meyler) away and I put my head in a forward motion. You just can’t do that. I apologised to him, to everyone at Hull and in particular to my own fans.
'It was a heat-of-the-moment thing. I just wanted to get the guy away from me, but it was a forward motion and you can’t do that. I am not stupid enough to think there’s going to be no punishment. I just have to accept it'.
The FA are thought to have launched an investigation into the affair, but Newcastle have already announced that they have fined their manager a whopping £100,000.
