A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool…
Liverpool have been linked with a move for Feyenoord midfielder Rodney Kongolo.
The 16-year-old was linked with Manchester City last year, but now the Mirror reports that Brendan Rodgers has joined the race for a player rather lazily dubbed “the new Patrick Vieira”.
The report claims that while the Dutch club are keen to keep Kongolo, he has so far rejected all offers of a new contract and looks set to decide between the Blues and the Reds this summer.
Should he move to Anfield, he will be yet another exciting young talent to join the ranks.
After his side’s 3-0 victory over Southampton, the Belgian stopper said, “It’s not only today. They (the fans) have been behind us since the first game of the season.
“If you play away and you get that support behind you, it only makes it easier for us to win games. Hopefully they can keep it up. Home or away, the atmosphere in the stadium is always very good and can only help us achieve great things.”
Liverpool's defence has come under scrutiny this season, but following the victory over the Saints, Mignolet said, “I think we defended really well and credit to the team for the work-rate they put into it.”
If they can iron out their defensive problems for what remains of the season, they really could be holding the Premier League trophy aloft in May.
