All the news, views and transfer rumours from Anfield this weekend…
There is only one place to start this weekend, and that is with Liverpool’s 3-0 victory away to Southampton on Saturday.
Suarez had a hand in all the goals, scoring the first, setting up the second and being fouled for the penalty that led to the third.
Speaking after the match, Gerrard said the result was a warning for the league’s other top sides.
“It’s a really big win and it sends out a message,” the midfielder told the BBC.
“The only thing that goes against us a little bit is our lack of experience (in the title race). But if we keep performing like we have then we’ve got a chance.”
However, teammate Jordan Henderson was being a little less optimistic when he spoke after the match, something his manager has also adopted in recent weeks to play down hopes that are looking more and more like a possible reality.
In quotes published by ITV, Henderson said, “We have just got to keep our feet on the ground.
“We’ve got some quality players here and are working very well, so we will take each game as it comes and see where we finish.”
Moving away from domestic matters, England boss Roy Hodgson believes Daniel Sturridge could one day join the 100-club in terms of international caps.
Speaking to the Telegraph, Hodgson said, “He should be looking to 50 caps and when gets his 50, look at 100 caps because he has got the talent to play. I don’t think anyone would deny the talent is there.”
If they did they would be quickly shouted-down, because Sturridge has been amazing for the Reds this season and looks set to become one of England’s most impressive and consistent strikers for many years to come.
On which side of the fence do you sit when it comes to Liverpool's title chances - cautious pessimism or unashamed optimism?
