Matthias Ginter says he is honoured to be linked to Manchester United.

Newly capped German international Matthias Ginter has welcomed reports linking him to Manchester United.

It was claimed at the weekend in The Mail that David Moyes had taken the trip to Germany to watch him in action for Freiburg against Hertha Berlin.

Moyes timed it well, with Ginter helping Freiburg to their first clean sheet of 2014 in a 0-0 draw.

The 20-year-old has been likened to Phil Jones for his versatility to play in central midfield and central defence, doing both on numerous occasions this season and has previously been touted as a potential target for Arsenal.

Told about Moyes' presence at the stadium after the game, Ginter had a positive response.

German newspaper BILD report him as saying: "If this really should be so, I am thrilled and honoured."

It has been a superb week for the youngster, called into Jogi Low's Germany squad for the first time, with a chance to stake his claim to go to the World Cup.

He is reported to be available at just £7 million making him a gamble that is probably worth taking for David Moyes, providing they can buy a senior central defender such as Ezequiel Garay too, rather than investing their faith in his youth to replace Nemanja Vidic.
