Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Schurrle performance v Fulham
Chelsea defeated Fulham yesterday with a comfortable second-half performance against their West London neighbours at Craven Cottage.
There were several performances of note in this game. Maarten Stekelenburg and Fernando Torres went head-to-head in a World Cup final less than four years ago - and yesterday they seemed intent on demonstrating which one had lost the most talent in the time that had passed.
Eden Hazard was sensational once again. The Belgian danced through the stubborn Fulham defence after the break - and pulled out a Rabona assist for Torres - who inexplicably headed wide from a yard out.
But the fact is, to win games, you must score goals - and with Chelsea’s £50 million striker looking in ‘one of those moods’ that responsibility fell at the door of German attacker Andre Schurrle.
The winger-come-forward was sensational in front of goal - and most of ruthless.
He bagged himself a hat-trick to take his tally for the season to six - and Jose Mourinho spoke of the player’s composure after the game:
“Andre, in front of goal, has cold blood. He looks to the keeper and can put the ball through his legs, can dribble and score in an open goal. He’s a really good finisher.”
Schurrle himself was obviously happy with his performance - and posted a picture after the game with the match-ball clasped in his hands.
And he can be happy with a good day’s work - as his vital statistics from the game highlighted:
|Name||Team||Ontarget Scoring Att||Shot Off Target||Goals||Mins|
For Schurrle it also acts as a timely reminder to his national team coach Jogi Low of his talents - as doubts over his World Cup place in Brazil have risen in recent weeks amid his lack of playing time at Chelsea.
But in the title run-in - Schurrle might just play a vital role for Chelsea.
Schurrle is a quality player and if Mourinho ditches that mess Torres it could seriously swing the title their way— Ryan Haymarch (@Ryan_Haymarch) March 2, 2014

The best part about the Schurrle hat trick is he completed it in 16 mins. Cold blood.— Darsan. (@FakeWinger) March 2, 2014
Last night also showed us Schurrle's best role - not as a conventional winger, but as a Pedro-like wing forward, making runs in behind. #CFC— Raghuram Cadambi (@raghuramcadambi) March 2, 2014
