Chelsea fans react on Twitter to Courtois performance against Real: 'Blues would be insane to let him go'

Thibaut Coutois

Chelsea fans had the chance to watch Thibaut Courtois when Atletico Madrid faced Real Madrid on Sunday, but what were they talking about?

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is one of Chelsea's best players...and yet he has become so while on loan at Atletico Madrid.

Such is his development that he is now - quite rightly - rated as one of the best 'keepers in the game, despite being just 21. But his future remains in doubt, with some people believing he should (and will) return to Stamford Bridge next season, and others seeing no way past current number one Petr Cech.

It is the 31-year-old's presence at the Blues that makes his club-mate's future so unclear.  Given that Cech could continue at the top of his game for at least the next five years, why would Jose Mourinho discard him regardless of how good the replacement would be?

In contrast, it could be argued that Courtois offers nearly two decades of solid service.  In short, Mourinho has a huge decision on his hands with neither stopper ready or willing to sit on the bench.

Courtois is enjoying an outstanding season with Atletico, who were within minutes of a vital and potentially La Liga-winning victory over their fierce rivals on Sunday.  But a goal from Cristiano Ronaldo meant the spoils were shared, with the Belgian unable to do anything about either goal in a 2-2 draw.

During and after the match, we took to Twitter to see what Chelsea fans made of Courtois' performance, and the common consensus was that Chelsea would be mad not to bring him back as soon as possible.
