After a total of 10 years at Tottenham, Defoe has officially departed North London and heads to Canada to join MLS side Toronto FC.
The 31-year-old cost Tottenham Hotspur over £20m in transfer fees in two separate spells, and after scoring more than 100 goals for the club, he has become a modern-era Tottenham legend.
Defoe and the club officially announced that he would be signing for Toronto FC during the January transfer window, but he remained on-loan at Spurs until the end of February 28.
Tottenham's Europa League second-leg tie at White Hart Lane against Dnipro on Thursday was expected to be Defoe’s swan-song as a Spurs player, but the former England international was only able to watch from the side-lines after sustaining a late injury.
In the end, Tottenham managed to give Defoe a winning send-off, as they came from behind to beat their Ukrainian opponents 3-1 on the night - and 3-2 on aggregate - to progress to the next round.
Starting the game for Spurs was £26m Spanish striker Roberto Soldado. And after the game, Soldado showed his appreciation of Defoe, posting a picture of the two together on Instagram and wishing him all the best in the U.S. It was a nice touch (in fact, some Tottenham fans think that it was Soldado's best touch all season!).
