The former Steaua Bucharest centre-back joined Tottenham in a reported €9.5m deal last summer.
Since making the move to North London, the Romanian international has adapted well to the English game, despite having an injury-hit debut season. The 24-year-old has managed to start 13 Premier League games for Tottenham, registering 25 tackles, 31 interceptions and 62 clearances.
Unfortunately for Chiriches, though, a knee injury caused him to miss out some key Tottenham's games during December - and he remains out injured after sustaining a more serious back injury towards the end of January.
Although Tottenham have a big enough squad to cover for their young centre-back - with Michael Dawson, Jan Vertonghen and Younes Kaboul all filling in - for the Romanian national team, it’s not so easy.
Chiriches is an established figure at the heart of the Romanian national team’s defence, and his absence ahead of the upcoming friendlies will be felt.
After hearing the news that their national teammate is likely to sit out on the side-lines for a further month or so, the Romanian camp – led by former Chelsea star Adrian Mutu – sent a message of support to the Tottenham star on Instagram. The players displayed Chiriches' number six shirt, and messaged: "don't give up Vlad".
