'It’ll be fun' - Walcott on Arsenal title race after Stoke defeat

Theo Walcott 2-0 Gesture v Tottenham

Theo Walcott thinks Arsenal are still in the hunt despite a defeat against Stoke City today.

Arsenal traveled to one of their least favourite destinations this afternoon - as they made their way to The Potteries to take on Stoke City at The Britannia Stadium.

And it was once again another day to forget for Arsenal against The Potters.

They were defeated 1-0 this afternoon, with Jonathan Walters slotting away a penalty after Laurent Koscielny was penalised for a handball - and in reality, Stoke deserved the win.

Arsenal are now looking in trouble of losing grip on their title race after this most recent slip up. Manchester City and Chelsea are ready to get away from them and Liverpool can no longer be considered as just maybe men.

Arsenal’s run-in has been hampered by injury issues - with Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott high-profile absentees.

Being a Liverpool fan and a former Southampton player Walcott was always a likely candidate to sit in the Saturday Night Football studio with Dave Jones and Jamie Redknapp this evening.

So that’s what he did - and without crutches in positive news.

And he was asked about the title race - in light of the defeat - telling Jones:

“That’s the mad thing about the Premier League this year, that’s why it’s the best in the world. You can’t really call any game. Everyone likes to play against the big teams and there is always a result that sort of tricks everyone. But like I say I think there is going to be plenty of ups and downs still in this title race and I’m sure it’s not the last result where we are going to have a bad one. So it’ll be fun.”

Theo seems optimistic then that the teams around them also have plenty of slip ups in store before the season is up.

But describing it as fun? Maybe if you are a player - but judging by the reaction of many an Arsenal fan to today’s defeat fun certainly did not seem like the word I would use.

Torture would seem more apt.
