The link between Manchester United and William Carvalho is not a new one.
In fact it would be a considerable surprise if the Sporting Lisbon midfielder was not the subject of a substantial bid from David Moyes’ side this summer.
He may only be 21, but William is everything United need in the centre of the park – the type of combative, energetic midfielder they have been crying out for.
With a reported release-clause of €45million, the Portuguese player will not come cheap. But then ideal solutions rarely do, and Moyes cannot afford to scrimp after a campaign in which the holes in his midfield have been laid bare like never before.
Now newspaper Record claims United are pushing forward with their reported interest, with a summer move looking increasingly likely.
They claim United are “moving in” on William, and in truth the move cannot come too soon.
While the majority of English fans may not be familiar with the player, he is destined to be a great.
In fact with the World Cup fast approaching, his talent is likely to be seen on a global scale, which could prompt Moyes to move swiftly to conclude a deal. Although that is likely to only be the case if he thinks he can sign the player for less than his clause.
Either way, William is a United player in ethos and talent, if not in name. That could soon change, with the Portuguese press believing Moyes could be about to make his move.
