The 10 biggest Bundesliga talents under 20 – Part 2

Max Meyer training with Schalke in August 2013

While several Premier League Clubs try to sign Schalke’s Julian Draxler, there is already the next wave in the Bundesliga of promising young players. Arsenal and Liverpool targets feature.

Here is a list of the Top 10: 5-1.

5. Matthias Ginter (19-years-old, SC Freiburg)

The centre-back is considered to be the biggest defensive talent in Germany right now. He has already played 53 times for Freiburg in the Bundesliga and is linked with Bayern as well as Dortmund. His flexibility on the pitch makes him so valuable for his club, as he can also play in the midfield. Arsenal are said to be interested in him as well.

4. Timo Werner (17-years-old, VFB Stuttgart)

Werner has become both Stuttgart's youngest player and youngest goalscorer of all times during this season. Meanwhile he has scored four times during the first half of the season and people see in him as the next Mario Gomez. The media in Germany speculate that he could be the long term solution for the striking position in the national team once Miroslav Klose retires.

3. Hakan Calhanoglu (20-years-old, Hamburger SV)

As he has just turned 20 three weeks ago, he still deserves to be in this list. He is probably one of the best free kick specialists in the Bundesliga right now, demonstrated last weekend with an amazing goal against Dortmund from a distance of 45 metres. He has scored already six goals in his first Bundesliga season. However, the German national team won’t benefit from his qualities, as he decided to play for Turkey. Arsenal and Liverpool have both been linked with him recently.

2. Max Meyer (18-years-old, Schalke 04)

Meyer has everything what it takes to become a world star in international football. He is a permanent starter for Schalke and has already scored five goals in this season. Apart from that he has a passing accuracy of 86% despite playing in attacking midfield. Right now he has to be considered as one of the best players in his age category and he is also the reason why most of the Schalke fans could live with a Draxler transfer to England.

1. Donis Avdijaj (17-years-old, Schalke 04)

Liverpool are supposed to be interested in this striker, but if they really want to purchase him, they would need a lot of money. Despite not having played a single minute in the Bundesliga, he is already considered the biggest German football talent of the moment. Schalke has just extended his contract until 2019 with a fixed release clause of 50 million Euros, which is five million more than Draxler would cost. Last year Avdijaj scored incredible 44 goals in 25 matches for the youth side and this year he has already scored 15 times in 14 occasions despite being named only six times in the starting lineup.
