Derby County's on-loan defender from Liverpool, Andre Wisdom, missed out on a call-up to the England U21 side, as Jamaal Lascelles won his first international U21 call-up in Gareth Southgate's latest team.
Gareth Southgate named a strong side for England's match against Wales next month, but captain Andre Wisdom has been left out, after serving his four-match ban for his red card in the European Championship qualifier against Finland.
The 20-year-old was sent off for lashing out at Borussia Dortmund striker Tim Varyrynen after England whimpered off the pitch after a frustrating 1-1 draw. Despite the disappointment of his actions, the former Middlesbrough manager backed his captain and remarked that the management staff was supportive of him.
'Andre suffered a harsh lesson because it is a four-game ban and is one which we as a squad must take on board,' Southgate said.
'I went to see him because I think it was important that he realised we are supportive of him.
'But for all of us in the squad, it was a lesson to learn that European football there are certain things [you can't do]. Games are refereed differently and keeping control is important.'
Despite the initial support from the manager, the wounds clearly haven't healed as the player was not invited back into the side, although his current form is amongst the best in the division.
Since he signed for Derby in mid-October, the full-back has recorded an impressive record of 13 wins, 3 losses and four draws, which has seen the Rams climb up to third in the table.
Although there was disappointment for Wisdom, there was a well-deserved call-up for Nottingham Forest centre-back Jamaal Lascelles. The 20-year-old has been ever-present in the Forest line-up after breaking through due to the unfortunate injury of former Celtic defender Kevin Wilson.
Last weekend's result against Burnley put a huge dent in the chances of Forest's automatic promotion hopes. However, the East Midlands outfit are still well placed to finish comfortably in the play-offs.
It's an incredible opportunity for Lascelles to have a strong end to the season and possibly earn a place in the Premier League with Nottingham Forest next season.
