There’s good news for Liverpool fans; central defender Mamadou Sakho is back in full training with the first team.
Sakho has been out of action with a troublesome hamstring problem and was tipped for a return against Southampton in the Premier League tomorrow.
However, while confirming that Sakho is back in training with the Reds, manager Brendan Rodgers said the game against the Saints was a little too early for his return s he took questions from the press ahead of the game.
“Mamadou Sakho has trained this week, but it’ll probably be too early for him this weekend. Lucas has also returned to training. Jose Enrique still out,” said the Anfield boss.
The defence is one of the only areas of the current Liverpool side which has come under criticism in recent times, with several commenting that repeat defensive performances like the one against Swansea City last weekend could cost the team.
Liverpool have conceded more goals than their main rivals in the race for a top four place and only Newcastle United have conceded more from the sides currently in the top ten.
Sakho’s return will provide Rodgers with further options in his backline and it will give the Frenchman a chance to add to the good form he showed before he picked up the problem against Chelsea.
