VIDEO: Ex-City playmaker Elano scores free-kick in Flamengo win

Elano Brazil

The Brazilian attacking midfielder netted a spectacular set piece in his side’s victory in the Copa Libertadores.

Despite all the superstars that take pride of place in the Manchester City squad currently, one of the first high-profile players to join the Etihad Stadium club was Elano.

The Brazil international moved to the Premier League in 2007, spending two years in Manchester before being sold to Galatasaray.

The South American schemer was well regarded in England for his shooting from distance and individual skill, and it appears that he has not lost his touch of class despite getting older.

The 32-year-old, now playing for Flamengo, netted this spectacular free-kick for the Brazilian side in a Copa Libertadores game against Emelec on Wednesday.

The goal was scored in the 11th minute, with Flamengo going on to win the clash 3-1.

Elano was a fans’ favourite at City, who will enjoy watching a former player excel elsewhere.
