Tottenham go to front of queue in 'Bulgarian Lampard' pursuit

Fulham, Aston Villa and QPR are all also said to be interested in Simeon Slavchev of Litex Lovech.

Tottenham Hotspur have had Bulgarian footballers in the past - well one.

Dimitar Berbatov was at the club between 2006 and 2008 after arriving from Bayer Leverkusen of the Bundesliga.

He went on to score 46 goals in 102 games for the club before being moved on to Manchester United for a whopping £30.75 million.

But now it seems another Bulgarian could be about to become the second to play Premier League football at White Hart Lane.

Simeon Slavchev is one of the hottest prospects in Bulgarian football at the moment - and the Litex Lovech star has plenty of suitors.

The likes of Aston Villa, West Ham, QPR and Fulham have reportedly targeted him in the past - whilst in Italy outfits such as Hellas Verona, Chievo and AS Roma have all been chasing the 20-year-old Bulgarian international.

Galatasaray are also said to be keen, but now Italian source TMW have reported that Spurs have a ‘strong advantage’ in the pursuit of the talented player - who has been compared to Celtic and Aston Villa hero Stillian Petrov in playing style as well as Chelsea legend Frank Lampard - a comparison which has earned him the moniker ‘Bulgarian Lampard’.

He recently spoke of his joy at being handed the captaincy at Litex and has so far not mentioned anything about wanting a potential move - but at 20-years-old he would represent an investment from the Spurs hierarchy.

But if he was to live up to his billing - he would be an excellent acquisition.

Check him out in action…
