The man who could cost Manchester United two summer transfer deals

Barcelona are emerging as favourites to sign two Manchester United linked players.

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta is reportedly taking a hands on role to oversee two transfer deals at the Spanish club, which concern Manchester United.

The Barca official reportedly travelled to Croatia to hammer out a deal for 17-year-old Dinamo Zagreb star Alan Halilovic and is also thought to have a deep interest in trying to do a deal for Juventus superstar Arturo Vidal.

Each target has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer, with talk of a large pot of cash for David Moyes to spend as he looks to transform the look of his squad and the fortunes of his team.

Catalan based newspaper Sport has suggested in each instance that Zubizaretta is so keen on each deal going through, that he’s overseeing things personally to give Barcelona every chance of getting the deals done as they could turn competitive.

Unfortunately for Manchester United and Moyes, they can’t do something similar themselves because there are too many questions hanging over their own season.

In the case of 11 goals, six assists Vidal, he’s unlikely to commit to any move unless the club he’s joining is guaranteed Champions League football, which is something Barca look more likely to secure than United.

In the case of Halilovic, still a very young man, the fact that such a high ranking member of Barcelona has gone all out to handle his transfer will speak volumes about the potential they believe he has.

That is something United could do but they would be battling against a rock solid club while their problems in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era are being publicised on a daily basis.

Nothing is done and dusted until Zubizaretta gets either player to sign on the dotted line of a Barcelona contract but they are laying the groundwork, which would be very difficult for Manchester United to break up.
