Imminent Chelsea signing learning English ahead of arrival

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma says he is preparing for life at Chelsea.

Kurt Zouma will be a Chelsea player from next season, after signing a deal to join the Blues at the end of the current season.

With John Terry into his mid-30s, there's a real hope at the club that teenager Zouma can help one day be his replacement.

Already a French international, his £15 million fee has the potential to be a bargain if Zouma becomes a mainstay of the side for the next decade, which manager Jose Mourinho is clearly hoping.

The centre-back is clearly hoping to make an impact at Chelsea sooner rather than later, indicating he is preparing for life in London by taking English lessons.

He told Le Parisien: "I take lessons at home so I advance. I'm motivated. I had good grades in English at school, but everyday is different."

That motivation and preparation is part of what marks talented and committed young footballers out from their peers.

There would be a temptation for Zouma to sit back having clinched his deal to Chelsea and take it easy, thinking he has made it, but he is clearly already planning to make his impact next season.

On the pitch he has not slowed up either. In the three games he has started for St Etienne since making his move, he has seen his side concede just one goal.

In the 0-0 draw with Toulouse a fortnight ago, Zouma made a staggering 25 clearances in a single game away from home, a rock in the Les Verts defence.

Such commitment on and off the pitch will be essential for a quick transition to the Premier League, and time will tell but the signs are that Chelsea may have bagged themselves a gem.
