Everton boss deals Hodgson fresh blow ahead of England squad announcement

England will be without Everton's Phil Jagielka for next week's friendly with Denmark.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Phil Jagielka will miss this weekend's game with West Ham.

Jagielka has been suffering from a hamstring problem in training this week which will rule him out of Saturday's meeting with Sam Allardyce's side at Goodison Park and also means that the 31-year-old will be sidelined for England's meeting with Denmark next week.

Roy Hodgson is set to announce his squad this afternoon for next Wednesday's friendly at Wembley as he looks to assemble the core of his team ahead of this summer's World Cup finals.

But Martinez has assured both the Three Lions boss and Evertonians that Jagielka's injury will not have long-term implications for the defender.

"Phil has felt his hamstring over the last couple of days," he told his pre-match press conference.

"I don't think it will be a long-term problem, but he'll miss the weekend and won't play for England."
