This was the title of a recent article we ran on the future of Sunderland striker Conor Wickham - as he returned to Sunderland from his loan spell from Sheffield Wednesday…
Leeds United should move for £8m striker who helped in 6-0 derby demolition
Does Brian McDermott read the site?
Because that is exactly what has happened.
A little over a month after Wickham was part of the Wednesday team that tore them apart in a 6-0 drubbing and now he will be playing for Leeds for the rest of the season.
Rumours started yesterday that a deal for the player was done - but he posted this snap on Instagram with a very proud message…
A new journey and a fresh challenge begins today! Looking forward to joining the squad getting started...
Speaking to the official Leeds United website, the player who cost Sunderland £8 million stated:
“Once I heard Leeds were interested in signing me there were no other choices and no doubt I wanted to come. I played against Leeds earlier this season with Sheffield Wednesday. The potential here is a big. There are some players here that I know already, and the team is looking to push towards the Play-Offs. Hopefully I can help with that. I just want to play football and do the best I can, and hopefully push the team into the promotion picture.”
If he can replicate his from from across Yorkshire, where he bagged eight goals in 12 appearances in his latest loan stint, he might just be the kick McDermott’s men need.
