Manchester United's 'demise' has not gone unnoticed on the continent.
Former Italian World Cup hero Paolo Rossi has given his view on the state of Manchester United.
The 1982 World Cup winner and former European Footballer of the Year said he was shocked at the dismal display from the Red Devils.
He told Sky Italia: "Manchester United is unrecognisable. Moyes's team has created one opportunity at the end with Van Persie, but it was the attitude of the team throughout the game that I did not like. "
For those watching from an English perspective, sadly for United their display was not shocking, merely typical of their abject season.
Rarely have United looked anything like their former selves, while there have been flashes, the 5-0 away win at Leverkusen in the group stage for example, it's been the exception to the rule.
Their disappointing season hadn't however translated into European competition until last night - and they have one game to rectify it.
For those watching from abroad who do watch United regularly, like Rossi, seeing this dismal United side is a shock to the system - and it's not just the manager, the players are letting themselves down terribly too.
Trying to pick themselves up from here will not be easy, and if they can't, the impression David Moyes' side left on Europe last night will be a lasting one.
