Tottenham latest: Soldado linked away? Sherwood says striker is a 'legend'

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Wednesday evening.

Tottenham striker Roberto Soldado may become a target for Atletico Madrid if their coveted striker Diego Costa leaves the Vicente Calderon in the summer, according to TalkSport.

The radio station cites a report from Spanish outlet Sport, which also says that Spurs may even include the Spaniard, who has been struggling for form this season since his move for Valencia, in any potential deal that could bring Costa to White Hart Lane.

Defender Kyle Naughton has said there is no explanation as to why Spurs have struggled so much in the Premier League after Europa League matches.

Spurs have lost six Premier League games immediately after participation in Europe and the full-back seems puzzled over it.

He said: “It’s something that’s happening and we’re not sure why, but we’ve got a big enough squad to deal with both, so I’m not sure why that’s happening.

“We can’t really make excuses about playing in the Europa League. That’s what we’re in. We should have a big enough squad to deal with that and the Premier League.”

Jermain Defoe has been ruled out of tomorrow’s second leg with Dnipro as Spurs look to turn around a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Ukraine, and Head Coach was full of praise for the England striker who is about depart the club for a move to MLS side Toronto.

Sherwood said: “Jermain Defoe is possibly one of the best goal-scorers this club has ever seen.

“Let’s hope we can find another one like Jermain Defoe because he always played with all his heart whenever he put on the shirt. He certainly will be a legend at this football club.”

Sandro is likely to start tomorrow’s Europa League tie having been sidelined since December.

Captain Michael Dawson is hoping the side can bounce back from two recent defeats with two home wins against Dnipro and Cardiff, and has said they want to do well in the Europa League.

He told the club’s website: “We know the fans will be right behind us and they deserve a big performance after the two defeats we’ve had.

“In football, you always get another chance and on Thursday, we’ve got that and then on Sunday at home to Cardiff.
