How United fans got over-excited via Twitter that Moyes could be sacked

David Moyes Interview - 23/02/2014

There were plenty of rumours earlier today that David Moyes was facing the sack.

Rumours were everywhere today suggesting that Manchester United boss David Moyes was set for the axe following the lacklustre performance which saw the Premier League giants confined to a 2-0 defeat away at Olympiakos in the Champions League.

The rumours were music to the ears of several United fans, who took to Twitter to convey their joy at the apparent imminent departure of the Scot tasked with taking United through the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

The rumour started to gather pace when news started doing the rounds on Twitter and online sources that Manchester United were due to make an announcement over at the New York Stock Exchange at 14:30 GMT.

Speculation instantly began that the announcement was to do with the departure of the current United chief who insists that his side can still make it through to the last eight of the European tournament, as they cling onto hopes of playing in the event next season.

The fact that so many United fans jumped on the ‘Moyes out’ bandwagon doesn’t do his image with supporters any good and it’s clear that Moyes has a lot of United fans to win round over the next half of the season.

He’ll then have a big summer ahead of him because it’s glaringly obvious United need to make some big signings in the next transfer window to cut the gap between themselves and their rivals.

The club said all along that they were backing Moyes for the long haul and it’s now up to the Scot to turn the fans who were happy to see him axed earlier today into believers that he can win numerous pieces of silverware at Old Trafford.

Here are some of the responses from Manchester United fans on Twitter to the rumours Moyes could be sacked.
