It was a tough game, but Arsenal’s youngsters have made it through to the quarter-finals of this seasons inaugural UEFA Youth League.
The Young Gunners pulled off a comfortable looking 3-1 victory against Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk last night to book a place in the last eight of the new premier youth competition in Europe.
Following on from their success in last season’s NextGen Series this should not come as a surprise - but they were made to work for their win.
Jon Toral had given them the lead - but they conceded an equaliser and were under immense pressure for large parts of the game.
And it sets up an exquisite looking final eight tie against Barcelona.
The likes of Hector Bellerin, Julio Plegezuelo and Toral will all be looking forward to this game even more than usual - as it is against their former team - and it should be an entertaining fixture.
For the confident young Swede who tucked away the Arsenal penalty however he has strong words for Barca - clearly showing no fear of his opponent’s reputation as the academy of football.
Happy to go through to quarterfinal and to help the team with a goal! Thanks for your support! Barcelona we are coming for you!— Kristoffer Olsson (@krisolsson) February 25, 2014
Let’s hope the Young Gunners can beat the boys from La Masia at their own game.
