Any British football fan will tell you that the man in the know when it comes to everything Spanish football is Guillem Balague.
The popular Sky Sports pundit often has the inside track when it comes to news stories in Iberia - and last night he caught wind of information regarding an Arsenal striker pursuit hotting up.
He stated on his official Twitter account that IF (and he made a very big point of the word IF on numerous occasions) both clubs could agree on a fee Alvaro Morata would be an Arsenal player from the summer.
Morata has agreed to join Arsenal IF, I repeat IF, I insist IF, clubs agree fee. He will push for Madrid to accept Arsenal's offer— Guillem Balague (@GuillemBalague) February 25, 2014
The young striker, compared to Fernando Morientes by many, has an undoubted level of ability but has stinted in his progress by the obvious competition for starting places that being a Real Madrid striker entails.
It seems like a good deal for The Gunners. He would not be overtly expensive and they certainly need striker reinforcements.
So this seems like a goer.
Balague is rarely wrong - and I am not at all attempting to doubt the big man.
But Morata doesn’t sound like a player on his way out of the club today on his official Twitter account.
Real Madrid take on Schalke 04 in the Champions League this evening and as the fans get excited so do the players.
And Morata Tweeted:
“Today we return to the Champions (League)! Proud to represent this badge in Europe. Let’s go team! #HalaMadrid”
Which certainly doesn’t sound like somebody who has agreed a move to another club in the summer - despite his sparse playing time at the Bernabeu under Carlo Ancelotti.
Only time will tell which Twitter account gives us the real inside scoop in regards to Morata’s future.
