Spanish expert Guillem Balague claimed last night that Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has reached an agreement with Arsenal over a move which would see the forward link up with the Gunners this summer.
The agreement is dependent on the Spanish giants and Arsenal reaching an agreement in terms of a fee and Balague stressed that the player would be doing everything possible to ensure that the move went through.
This isn’t the first time this season that Morata has been linked with Arsenal as reports suggested last summer that the Gunners could draft him in as attacking support and talk of a loan deal as recently as last month.
He didn’t move seemingly based on the assurance that he’d be given a fair run of games under Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti who has used him 21 times in all competitions so far this season.
There’s nothing that Ancelotti can do about the form shown by another Arsenal target, Karim Benzema, which has kept Morata out of the side much to the dismay of plenty of Real Madrid fans, partly forcing him into this decision.
As far as Arsenal are concerned, they do need another centre forward this summer as back up and competition to Olivier Giroud, Nicklas Bendtner and Lukas Podolski.
It’s one of the only areas of the current Arsenal squad which can be considered a little threadbare and the addition of Morata would be a sensible one, with the effects likely to be seen over an extended period of time.
It now remains to be seen whether the deal is made official at the end of the season but the news has been met with initial optimism and positivity by Arsenal fans on social media site Twitter.
Take a look at what fans have had to say.
Rumours Arsenal interested in Morata for some time. Liked what I saw of Álvaro last summer. Would be a very good addition to squad.— Michael Gooner (@MickTheGooner) February 26, 2014
Morata would be good signing but I think arsenal can do better— Soulo (@nasir_l) February 25, 2014
So Morata to Arsenal could be the case. I'm a fan of Morata. A star in the summer for Spain u 21's. Big potential. Tall, Strong, Fast.— Mesut Özil (@OzilWizardry) February 25, 2014
Morata closing in on a move to Arsenal? He's a great talent, but Arsenal need a Cavani, a Falcao, a complete already developed striker.— Viktor Fagerström (@ViktorFagerLFC) February 25, 2014
Arsenal have Sanogo, no need for Morata. Both have potentials, but Morata could be slightly better. Having said that, a WC CF is what we need— Niko Marvel (@Nikomarvel) February 25, 2014
I hope all these Morata stories are untrue. We already have a top talent in Sanogo.. We rather need a top-quality CF imo. #AFC— Francis (@Flanchich) February 26, 2014
Alvaro Morata to Arsenal....I don't even know what to say....Is he that GOOD? Let's be wise...#Afc#Haha#5PUR2#COYG— Gbabe'Gooner (@AYEJUYO) February 26, 2014
If we sign Morata, that would be Giroud, Sanogo and Morata. What an underwhelming frontline kmt— Aaron Jamsey (@Jam_AFC) February 25, 2014
Morata reportedly agreed personal terms with #afc for summer move. Lots of potential but can't help feeling we need an experienced striker— Gooner_DS (@Gooner_DS) February 26, 2014
