Why Arsenal need Tottenham to WIN against Dnipro in the Europa

Kyle Walker SPurs V Arsenal

Tottenham try to overcome a first leg deficit against Dnipro later this week, here's why a win could be good news for Arsenal.

Arsenal and Tottenham are the most embittered of rivals, but should fans of the Gunners be feeling positive if Spurs win their Europa League game later this week?

Thanks to the scheduling of fixtures domestically and in Europe, a Tottenham win would certainly be of benefit to Arsenal.

It would take Spurs through to a Europa League last 16 match, likely against Benfica who look likely to qualify after a 1-0 away win at PAOK last week.

The first game of the tie between Tottenham and Benfica would be played on March 13, just three days before the North London Derby.

Spurs host Arsenal on March 16th, in a game which is a must-win tie for both clubs, with Arsenal chasing the title and their rivals battling to stay in the chase for fourth.

Arsenal play their second leg of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich days earlier on the 11th, and in the worst case scenario could return on the wrong end of a battering. The German champions have won their last six games in all competitions by an aggregate score of 22-0.

So the last thing they would want is to visit a Tottenham side who have been rested up all week.

No instead, it would be far better if they were to face a Spurs side who have been playing a high intensity game against the Portuguese league leaders days earlier.

As we saw this week, the Europa League curse struck Tottenham again, losing 1-0 to Norwich days after their game with Dnipro.

It may not be natural for Arsenal fans to be hoping for a Spurs win they they play the second leg this week, but it may just boost their title chances.
