Mourinho hints Terry, Lampard and Cole set for new contracts

Jose Mourinho Double

Chelsea’s manager has stated that the club’s three veterans may well get new deals at Stamford Bridge.

With Chelsea’s constant search for the latest new superstars from European and world football, one could be forgiven for thinking that some of their ageing stars might be shown the door this summer.

The Blues have a host of exciting players out on loan, while Jose Mourinho has a squad at his disposal capable of fighting for major honours.

The futures of veterans Frank Lampard, John Terry and Ashley Cole have been up for debate, but the west London outfit’s manager has stated that the trio may well be in line for new deals at the club.

"If they get a contract in this club, which probably they will, they will do based on performance, based on the quality they are showing,” the Portuguese coach is quoted as saying in The Independent.

“It will not be because they are legends or because we owe them something or because they want to stay here at any cost."

Terry and Lampard seem more than capable of continuing at this level, as they have been important players for Chelsea this term.

Cole has had to play second fiddle to Cesar Azpilicueta at left-back, and as such could well be more likely to consider his options.
