Agger was substituted after just over an hour of Liverpool’s 4-3 win over Swansea City at the weekend, with the Express saying Rodgers is unconvinced that Agger and Martin Skrtel can form an effective defensive partnership.
The Dane has been subject to bids from Manchester City and Barcelona recently – and was appointed the club’s vice-captain in the summer.
Pepe Reina is out on loan at Napoli and is unlikely to remain a Liverpool player beyond the end of this season whilst Simon Mignolet’s form has been unconvincing of late.
Valdes is available on a free transfer at the end of the season – with Monaco and Manchester City said to be two of the sides who are also interested in signing him.
Brendan Rodgers has told TalkSport that his side have exceeded expectations during his time at the club.
He said: ‘When I spoke to the owners when I decided to come to Liverpool, I certainly wanted to be challenging for the Champions League by my third year at the club.
‘But I haven’t been surprised by the players because I’ve seen how much they put into their game and I know the quality we have.
‘I think we’ve probably moved ahead of where I thought we would be this season, some of our play has been exceptional, but there are still areas of the team I feel we need to improve on.’
Mignolet said: ‘He is always helping the team out – not only attacking wise but also defensively. He is the one who presses first and he’s the one who comes and defends at corners as well.’
