Who were the best forwards over the weekend? Sturridge, Rooney and more

Daniel Sturridge Liverpool

Hull City, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United stars all feature.

Strikers are key in any side because they often put the icing on the cake of great attacking moves by hitting the back of the net.

There were several key attacking performances over the weekend as Olivier Giroud re-discovered a bit of form for Arsenal while Daniel Sturridge continued the momentum he’s been building all season with Liverpool.

We’ve taken a look at the best strikers across several different areas.

Wilfried Bony Swansea FW 2 1 90
Olivier Giroud Arsenal FW 2 1 90
Nikica Jelavic Hull FW 2 1 90
Daniel Sturridge Liverpool FW 2 1 79
Carlton Cole West Ham FW 1 1 90

Sturridge’s exploits for Liverpool were very nearly cancelled out by the brace Swansea star Wilfried Bony managed to secure in the same game. It’s also interesting to see Hull’s Jelavic on the list because he’s really struggled for form since the turn of the year.

Wilfried Bony Swansea FW 3 1 90

Glenn Murray Crystal Palace FW 3 1 66
Peter Odemwingie West Brom FW 3 1 90
Marko Arnautovic Stoke FW 1 1 69

Glenn Murray deserves a mention in this stat because his performance against Manchester United came from his first start in the Premier League since he picked up that injury which forced him to miss the Championship play-off final. He really worked hard to keep the pressure on the Premier League champions.

Daniel Sturridge Liverpool FW 2 1 79

Sturridge appears again but it was a Newcastle forward who won more dribble contests than any other striker. Loic Remy was a constant threat throughout the game against Aston Villa, ultimately scoring the goal which secured the vital three points.
