Stuck for Xbox One games? We take a look at the top upcoming games to watch out for this year.
So, you’ve bought yourself an Xbox One recently, but you’re wondering where all the games are? It’s always the same old story when a new console launches, there just aren’t enough games available to keep us gamers satisfied. Well, fear not, as we’re here to get you excited at the prospect of shiny, new games, due to be released in 2014. In part one we’ll look at the first six of our most anticipated games of this year.
Thief – Available 25 February 2014
Yes, this is out tomorrow. And yes, I’m still putting this on here, purely for the fact it looks great and you should definitely be excited about it. Whether it lives up to the hype, and my own excitement, only time will tell. But if you’re unsure, check out our previous coverage here, here… aaand the launch trailer here!
Plants Vs. Zombies Garden Warfare – 25 February 2014 US / 28 February 2014 UK
Another game to be released this week, you’re spoilt for choice now, aren’t ya? A whole new take on the Plants Vs. Zombies franchise this time around - it’s a third-person shooter, with 4-player co-op and 24-player battle mode. Xbox LIVE's Major Nelson talks us through the game in the video below, which looks ridiculously fun!
Titanfall – 11 March 2014
If you’re tired of the same old same old that keeps getting churned out, year after year, then Titanfall could be your saving grace – plus release day is only a couple of weeks away.
I played a snippet of the Beta on PC, and it gave me loads of ‘wow’ moments that I just haven’t had in an FPS for quite some time. Like when you first call down your Titan in the middle of a fire-fight, hearing it boom as it hits the ground - you jump in, sway the battle in your favour, and feel awesome. Or when you free-run your way up to a rooftop, to then jump on top of an enemy Titan to try and bring it down. The game makes you feel like, that no matter if you’re losing, you’re still making a difference and there’s always something to help you turn the tide in your favour.
The Elder Scrolls Online – 4 April 2014
I’ve pre-ordered this for PC myself, as I’m a big Elder Scrolls fan. So no matter what happens, whether it’s deemed good or bad, I’ll just be happy I own it. Plus it’s released on my birthday, so I had to buy a present for myself, right?
Anyway, this is the first venture online for The Elder Scrolls (TES) series, and if you’re a long-time fan, or you just found out about TES via Skyrim, I’m sure you’ll agree that it looks great. Although there have been mixed views about the game on PC, the real test of its merit will be when the rest of the world can get their hands on it. Check out our coverage of the voice cast, and Imperial Edition. Plus there's also this epic 8 min trailer from Bethesda below.
UFC 2014 – Spring 2014
The latest iteration of the UFC franchise is being brought to us by EA, using the same team that brought us the Fight Night boxing games. Take a look at our coverage of the ‘Next-Gen Fighters’ trailer here, which shows more realistic fighters, moves, and facial expressions than we’ve ever seen in any UFC game previously.
Wolfenstein: The New Order – 20 May 2014 US/23 May 2014 Europe
The granddaddy of shooters is back! Set in 1960, the Nazi’s have won World War II, and only B.J. Blazkowicz can save the day. Featuring big guns, giant mechs, and chain-saw interrogation – the trailer below will show you all of this, and more, all to the tune of Ralph Becker singing Boom! Boom! Brilliant!
So, that wraps up part one of our upcoming Xbox One games for this year. Keep an eye out for part two later in the week.
