Arsene Wenger revealed influential midfielder Tomas Rosicky has agreed a new deal with the club after their victory over Sunderland at the weekend, and also stating his goal as one of the best they have scored.
See the goal below:
Despite not being a regular in the Arsenal starting eleven, it is important to not overlook his importance in the squad and his influence over the team.
Reminiscing a little over the difference in the player he signed from Borussia Dortmund to the player he is now, he revealed a change in style as an important factor in his longevity as an Arsenal player.
''When he arrived, he was less a tactical player and more the Mozart from Prague,'' Wenger said.
''He was purely a creative offensive player. But today, he is a real organiser as well. He gives a real structure to the team.
''He is one of the players who plays the game of give-and-move and he is a great accelerator of the game. He always makes things happen, not with individual dribbling but with individual acceleration of his passing and his runs. His goal was one of the best we have scored.''
It's hard to disagree with the experienced coach, and his description of Rosicky, in my opinion, is absolutely spot on. He is quite simply an elegant footballer.
In the past two seasons, it is fair to say he hasn't been at the forefront of selection due to injury issues and other factors, yet he has still played an important role.
This season he has made nine Premier League starts for the club, along with eight substitute appearances, which is more than he managed in the whole of last season.
In the past two seasons he has contributed three Premier League goals and two assists, which does poorly reflect his overall contribution to the team. However, If you look at other key factors including chances created and passing statistics it shows the player in a more positive light. This is highlighted by his impressive pass accuracy of 86%.
And It's not only Wenger singing the praises of the Czech midfielder as club legend Thierry Henry endorsed him in a recent interview he did at Barcelona's launch of the new Puma evoPOWER football boots.
He explained how Rosicky's attitude and energy gained respect from those around him and why he wants him at the Emirates long-term.
''He gives 100 per cent all the time,'' said Henry.
''For me that's the type of player you want to stay at Arsenal for a very long time. As an Arsenal an and as an Arsenal fan now, he is a star for me.''
Rosicky is still yet to win a major trophy with Arsenal and from now until the end of his contract at the club, it will be the main goal and few would argue that he deserves it more than anyone else in the Premier League.
