You have to feel for Tim Sherwood.
Almost immediately after taking the permanent manager’s position at Tottenham Hotspur, some of the biggest names in European football were tipped to replace him.
First it was Holland national coach Louis van Gaal and then the man in charge of Italy, Cesare Prandelli, was reportedly set for a summer move to White Hart Lane.
Reports at the weekend claimed Sherwood’s future would not be determined by whether or not he qualified for the Champions League, which is probably for the best following their shock 1-0 defeat away to Norwich City on Sunday.
And now Prandelli has had his say on the stories linking him with the Spurs hot-seat.
Speaking to RAI television, the 56-year-old is quoted as saying, “That’s pure fantasy football.
“It’s still a little too soon to talk about my future. I’ll sit down with (Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo) Abete and Federation bosses after the friendly with Spain to discuss it.”
That friendly match is on 5 March, after which point a little more may be known (at least in private) regarding Prandelli’s future.
And yet the fact that his future remains uncertain will surely see the stories continue at least for now, regardless of what he says to the contrary.
