A round up of the latest news and transfer stories about Liverpool from the past 24 hours.
One major piece of transfer news today sees Liverpool linked with a swoop for Real Madrid star Karim Benzema, with the Metro suggesting Brendan Rodgers is interested in bring the forward in at the end of the season. Benzema is reportedly open to leaving the Spanish giants.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen has revealed he was always confident that the side could bridge the gap against Swansea City following wins for Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United.
“When you play a day later than your rivals, you sometimes feel the pressure of that situation, but we were as confident as ever that we could get the result and bridge the gap,” he told the Liverpool website.
Rodgers has vowed to keep faith with Liverpool’s attacking style following criticism that his team were too open and vulnerable against Swansea.
“I worry always to play good football. I'm not totally satisfied with always grinding out results. It's the point of the season where it's about winning, that's what professional sport is about at this level - especially if you're up there challenging - but for us, I will always concentrate on performance,” said the boss.
Jordan Henderson has described the winner he scored against Swansea as the most important goal of his career. Henderson bagged a brace with a superb first strike before he knocked in a rebound to win Liverpool the game.
“The second one was pleasing because I've been trying to arrive in the box a lot more and to find the back of the net then was very pleasing as well. It was a good goal and that's probably the most important one I've scored here,” he’s quoted by the Mirror.
In one of the more left field rumours to emerge today, the Express claimed Steven Gerrard was at last week’s Champions League game between Manchester City and Barcelona on a scouting mission. Gerrard was spotted in the stands along with medical staff from the Anfield club.
In other transfer news, Liverpool are once again reportedly under pressure over the future of Yevhen Konoplyanka with Tottenham apparently still harbouring a desire to sign the Ukrainian winger.
“Rodgers knows you have to keep everyone fit and playing well [to win the title] but, of course, the defence is a worry - I’m sure he wouldn’t be happy winning 4-3 every week. As much as they’re scoring all these goals, they need to tighten up at the back,” Barnes told TalkSport.
In a more light hearted story today, Daniel Sturridge is planning to release a ‘how to’ video for his goal celebration ahead of the World Cup this summer.
“I'm going to release a how-to before the World Cup. Everyone needs to know the moves! I'll have to put it on YouTube,” said the striker.
