A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Monday evening.
Spurs’ goal of securing a top four place was dealt a blow yesterday after their 1-0 loss to Norwich City at Carrow Road, which leaves them six points behind Liverpool – who have a far superior goal difference.
Vertonghen is quoted, saying: ‘What I want is to be playing in the Champions League with Tottenham, so I hope we get in this year.
‘Do I have a decision to make if we don’t? I can’t say anything about that. Let’s see after the end of the season, after the World Cup.’
Boss Tim Sherwood is backing out of form striker Roberto Soldado to get back on the goal trail sooner rather than later having scored one goal in his last 11 games – and hasn’t scored in this calendar year.
Sherwood said: ‘We’re waiting for him to take one and then hopefully the confidence will start flooding back for him.
‘He’s getting the opportunities to score but he just needs to take one.’
Michael Dawson said a slow start cost the side dearly yesterday in the defeat at Carrow Road, saying Spurs had only really started playing well from the 60th minute onwards.
He told the Tottenham website: ‘We couldn’t get the ball down and play like we normally do.
‘We had a few chances towards the end and we maybe could have got something out of the game but overall, it was a disappointing performance.’
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has told the club’s website that the kind of game and performance put in by Spurs was unacceptable, and said the side has to show more.
‘We need to learn from this game and on Thursday, we have a big match in the Europa League and then next weekend, Cardiff. It’s important to have a good response.
‘When you have ambition you have to prove it every day, every training session and every time in the games. We have to keep working, keep going and hope we have a good response in both matches.’
