Bayern sweating on fitness of 20-goal star for Arsenal second leg

Thomas Muller is an early injury risk for Bayern's second leg with Arsenal.

Arsenal need all the help they can get for their second leg against Bayern Munich, as they seek to overcome a 2-0 deficit.

The chance that Bayern could be without Thomas Muller is at least one positive going in their favour, after the German tore a muscle in his right thigh at the weekend.

Muller has scored 20 goals this season, including the second strike against the Gunners at the Emirates.

He was taken off in Bayern's game against Hannover at the weekend, minutes after he had scored his second goal of the fixture in the 4-0 win.

T-Online.de report that Muller is to miss this weekend's clash with Schalke, and will not be a part of the squad for Germany's upcoming friendly on March 5.

Bayern play their second leg with Arsenal on the 13th, and Muller is hoping to return to training in the week ahead of the Champions League tie.

Yet there remains uncertainty, and Muller may find himself relegated to the bench again - especially with Franck Ribery set to return from his own injury.

That's the problem with a team as magnificent as Bayern's. One player goes out, another world class star takes his place. See Bastian Schweinsteiger sitting on the bench at the Emirates for instance.

Muller is such a talented player that Pep Guardiola will be crossing his fingers the injury is a straightforward one, even despite the riches already at his disposal.
