Every Monday, Manchester United player Juan Mata takes to his blog to give his fans an insight into the role and thoughts of a footballer.
This week was no exception, as the Spaniard looked ahead to a Champions League campaign he will have to watch from the side-lines (as he is ineligible to play for United).
“I’ll be supporting United like any other fan,” he wrote, which shows yet again just how quickly he has settled at Old Trafford following his club-record transfer from Chelsea.
With United travelling to Greece to play Olympiakos, Mata has highlighted some of the danger-men David Moyes will no doubt have warned his side about, including Valdez, Hernan Perez and Arsenal loanee Joel Campbell.
But he also took the time to hail Wayne Rooney following his contract renewal and goal-scoring outing against Crystal Palace.
The England striker netted the vital second in a match United had to win, and Mata wrote, “The game was very special for Rooney after his recent renewal, and he was very happy.
“He deserves it; he is a model player in this club and it’s a privilege to have him with us now and in the coming years.”
With United’s front-line, there is a real sense that things are looking up at the club. Any side with Mata, Rooney, Robin van Persie and Adnan Januzaj cannot be underestimated.
And while this season will be one of transition, United fans should be excited about the summer to come, the almost-certain arrivals, and what they may be watching once those players bed in and Mata has a full pre-season with his new teammates.
