Wenger reveals reason for Ozil omission in Sunderland rout

The Arsenal boss has stated that the Germany international had picked up a knock, but would be back in the running to face Stoke.

With Arsenal slumping to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League in midweek, Mesut Ozil was a player that was slightly vilified by the media.

The Germany international, signed for a club record transfer fee in the summer, has had a slump in form of late.

The ex-Real Madrid star missed a penalty while the score was still 0-0 and was also accused of not tracking back defensively by the British press.

With Ozil not part of the matchday squad for Arsenal’s win over Sunderland yesterday, Arsene Wenger has revealed the reason behind the playmaker’s absence.

“Yes [he was injured], a thigh problem but it was a kick,” the French coach told the club’s official website.

“He should also be available next week. He is in the dressing room at the moment.”

Arsenal’s next game is against Stoke next Saturday, with an FA Cup clash against Everton the following weekend.
