Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic is on his way out of Old Trafford this summer on a free transfer - with Inter Milan seemingly the lucky recipients of arguably the best centre back to have played for the club (feel free to disagree with me on that point).
Vidic has been a loyal servant - but injuries have taken their toll and a league with a less physical demand is necessary for him to increase the longevity of his career.
The question now is how do United replace him?
They have Rio Ferdinand, who is also at the end of his career and could leave in the summer. Then there is Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans - all injury prone and unproven at the back.
So David Moyes will be in the market for a new central defender when the transfer window opens - but who should he sign?
Plenty of big names have been mentioned - but it seems that he might be looking at signing an unknown quantity instead.
The nil side of their game was once again largely down to one of their most impressive players - Martin Hinteregger.
The 21-year-old Austrian international has reportedly caught the eye of several big clubs over the past six months - and United are reportedly one of them.
The player’s agent also made it clear that United were keen earlier in the year:
"Looking ahead to next season there is interest from several clubs in Italy and England. Thinking about this topic, his future will be in the Premier League or Serie A. For the January transfer market we have totally ruled out his departure. Options? I know Manchester United, Juventus and Lazio are interested."
Now it is reported that United had scouts in Amsterdam on Thursday to check him out. It is a Portuguese report, Record, who have announced this news - suggesting a couple of United scouts went to check him out as a potential Vidic replacement.
Could he do the job?
