Tottenham morning news: Soldado tipped to shine and ‘Spurs are top four contenders’ says rival boss

A select round-up of news relating to Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has tipped his teammate Robert Soldado to prove the doubters wrong when it comes to his goal-scoring ability.

The Spaniard has struggled to regain his La Liga form since his summer move from Valencia, and the spotlight fell even heavier on him after he missed a clear-cut chance in the Europa League last week.

But in quotes published by the Daily Star, Vertonghen said, “It was very unfortunate because in training he scores from everywhere.

“At some time he is going to score one and he won’t stop scoring. I hope that day is coming soon.

“He is determined to prove himself. He is a very determined person and I think he did well when he played up front with Ade Adebayor. He just needs a few more games.”

In other news, the Irish Independent reports that Norwich boss Chris Hughton is focused on tomorrow’s match against Spurs despite the Canaries’ struggles and question marks over his own long-term future.

My job on a daily basis is hectic, with numerous things you have to make decisions on,” he said. “That dominates my thoughts, not anything outside that.”

Of tomorrow’s opponents, Hughton said, “I think they are (top four) contenders because of the depth of squad they have got.”
