Arsenal secured a comfortable victory at home to Sunderland, with a brace from Olivier Giroud and a goal apiece from Laurent Koscielny and Tomas Rosicky securing a 4-1 victory.
Emmanuel Giaccherini volleyed home a late consolation but it could not take the shine off an Arsenal performance that included an excellent goal of their own, when Rosicky finished a fine passing move to make it 3-0.
Giroud's goals were less impressive but no less important. His first arrived after a deflected Jack Wilshere shot fell into his path and the second came following a poor back-pass from Sunderland's Santiago Vergini.
The result means Arsenal remain just a point behind Chelsea (who won 1-0 at home to Everton earlier in the day), while Sunderland are one point away from Premier League safety.
