Back in January, along with the considerable speculation linking Julian Draxler with a move to the Emirates Stadium, Arsenal were linked with Benfica striker Rodrigo.
The young Spaniard is enjoying a fine season in Portugal, and reports in the country claimed Arsenal were interested in a player whose economic rights have since been sold for a reported €30million.
Despite that business, he remains a Benfica for the rest of the season, at which point he is likely to be sold by those who paid big for him in January.
While Diego Costa and Jackson Martinez have also been long-linked with a move to North London, Rodrigo reportedly rejected a move to Russia last month as he held out for a potential switch to the Premier League.
Indeed, reports claimed Arsene Wenger was interested but had yet to decide whether to spend big on the 22-year-old.
Well now Portuguese newspaper A Bola has picked up on reports in Italy claiming Inter Milan have an interest in the striker and could make a move for him at the end of the current campaign.
With Draxler seemingly still on Wenger’s shopping list, and with Yaya Sanogo impressing in recent matches, it may be that Arsenal do not feel the need to sign another young forward.
But if they are indeed interested in Rodrigo, they may have to act fast – and pay big – next summer.
