A report in Sport Bild suggsts Bayern Munich may be preparing to give in to Toni Kroos' new contract demands.
The German press has been purring over Toni Kroos ever since his superb performance against Arsenal earlier this week and Sport Bild has suggested Bayern Munich are ready to make a big concession over talks with the German over a new contract.
The German tabloid has revealed that managing director of 'Sport Total' negotiated a new deal for Bayern star Mario Gotze worth €12 million could have knock on effects on a new deal for Manchester United target Toni Kroos.
Kroos’ current deal expires in 2015 and it’s been well documented that he wants to be financially rewarded along the same lines as several other Bayern Munich stars in any new contract offer.
That created a stand off and provided hope for Manchester United fans that David Moyes and Ed Woodward may have been able to pull off a deal for the 24-year-old this summer.
However, an end to the saga over his future could soon be in sight.
"The managing director of the Cologne-based agency "Sport Total" has already negotiated a mega-deal with the Bavarians. This however is for Mario Gotze - With the signature in 2017 of ex-Dortmund earning up to 12 million per year," reads a translated version of the report in Bild.
“For Kroos, whose contract expires in 2015, the situation is clear: He wants to reach a certain position in the internal salary structure of the club – According to Sport Bild, they are going to double his salary to around 8 million.”
Kroos’ performance earlier this week would have sent out a huge message to coach Pep Guardiola, who has been criticised over the last couple of weeks for leaving Kroos out of the team and confining him to the subs bench.
He showed that mentally he’s not going to sulk or throw his toys out of the pram, simply making the most of any chance he’s given to start in big game situations for the team.
He also showed versatility in the game against Arsenal taking a lot of pressure during the early part of the game before pressing forward when Bayern were handed a numerical advantage.
That means he can cover different positions and different roles for the Spanish manager, who has used key Bayern Munich players in other areas to their accepted positions throughout the season.
A new contract offer with the desired pay increase seems to be just around the corner and if Kroos continues to play in big games over the rest of the season, it’s a message that Guardiola wants to keep him and a message that Manchester United could be wasting their time in going after him.
