Premier League sides could benefit from potentially amazing decision at Barcelona

Conflicting reports have emerged from Catalan newspapers over Gerardo Martino's Barcelona future.

Catalan newspapers Sport and Mundo Deportivo have published conflicting stories over the future of Barcelona boss Gerardo Martino, with Premier League sides potentially set to benefit.

Martino’s future with Barcelona has been widely discussed with the Spanish press, with the idea that he could be replaced at the end of the season after his first year in charge, if he doesn’t put silverware into the trophy cabinet.

Sport has suggested that his future will be discussed in the summer whereas Mundo Deportivo has gone with a report which suggests that the club have already drawn up a deal which will expire in 2016.

“Barca will address the renewal of Tata in the summer,” reads the tagline of the story on Sport.

Whereas alternately reads the home page tag on Mundo Deportivo’s website:

“We want Tata to 2016 – The club will offer the renewal at the end of the season regardless of whether titles are won.”

So what will happen if Barca get to the end of the season, without a trophy, and decide that Martino isn’t the man they want leading the side over the next couple of years.

There won’t be drastic changes in terms of personnel because Barcelona have some iconic and committed players but there could be one or two who definitely consider their futures under a new manager.

Barca are going through a period where they are just starting to inject some young and new players into the first team on a regular basis and that comes from Martino’s influence.

Martin Montoya, Marc Bartra and Sergi Roberto are just a few contemporary examples of players who could be forced to look away from the Nou Camp next season, if the gaffer who has placed so much faith in them is removed. Cesc Fabregas is already enjoying the best season of his Barcelona under Martino, and may consider his options if the manager goes.

As things stand, Barca are in with a great chance of completing a domestic double and a Champions League that would make an historic treble. Which brave soul would sack their head coach after that?
