Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Konoplyanka performance against Spurs

Yevhen Konoplyanka scored in Dnipro's win against Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Yevhen Konoplyanka scored the only goal of the game as Dnipro secured a first leg Europa League win against Tim Sherwood’s Tottenham Hotspur last night.

Konoplyanka was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool last month in a deal which didn’t quite happen in time to make the January transfer deadline, as he showed glimpses of what Liverpool have just missed out on last night.

Konoplyanka could still make the move to Anfield in the summer and there’s every reason to believe that Liverpool can pull off the deal and complete the transfer at the second time of trying.

He was identified as a target by Brendan Rodgers after the episode which saw Mohamed Salah snatched from Liverpool’s grasp and convinced to make a high profile move to Chelsea under Jose Mourinho.

There was also plenty of speculation last month that Spurs were looking to hijack the Konoplyanka deal in order to bolster their own attacking ranks but Liverpool should be free to go after a permanent deal this summer.

It was no surprise that Konoplyanka was named in Dnipro’s side to face Tottenham last night because he’s one of the most talented attacking players in Ukraine.

He has the potential to address a problematic left midfield area for Brendan Rodgers who has been forced to use a combination of central midfielders and Daniel Sturridge out on the left hand side at times this season.

Raheem Sterling’s form on the right flank equipped with Victor Moses’ inconsistency means that Rodgers is likely to press for a player in the summer transfer market who can come in and address that area.

Konoplyanka could be that man and based on some comments from Liverpool fans last night on Twitter, plenty would be very happy with the possible summer signing, at the second time of trying.
