Atletico Madrid’s directors were asked about Diego Costa’s future ahead of their Champions League clash with Milan.
Speaking ahead of the Champions League clash between Italian strugglers AC Milan and Diego Simeone’s highflying Atletico Madrid, director Enrique Cerezo was asked about Diego Costa’s future.
The 25-year-old Brazilian born striker has been a revelation this season following the departure of former Atletico Madrid fan favourite Radamel Falcao.
In just 23 La Liga starts, the recently Spanish-nationalised striker has netted 21 goals – just a couple of goals short of top goalscorer Cristiano Ronaldo. His form has been nothing short of astonishing, and much-improved from last season.
Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all been linked with a move for the striker, and recently surfaced reports suggested that Thibaut Courtois could be used as a potential deal-breaker in order for Diego Costa to join up with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea.
Director Enrique Cerezo however had other ideas, and told Spanish press AS that he is confident Atletico Madrid’s star striker will remain at the club beyond the summer.
He said: “If they ask me about Diego Costa, I am going to tell them that he is a great player, he lives in Madrid, and he is charming and very happy.”
Enrique Cerezo followed up by dropping this bombshell: “Diego Costa has no intentions of leaving us.”
Whether that holds true will surely depend on how tempted Atletico Madrid are when the inevitable big money offers come flooding in this summer.
Will Atletico Madrid be able to hang on to their star striker beyond this summer?
