'Thanks bro' - Arsenal star Ozil thanks Podolski and team-mates for support

Mesut Ozil has said sorry, now he is saying thank you.

Arsenal are on the brink of elimination from the Champions League after they were defeated by Bayern Munich in the first-leg of their last 16 tie yesterday.

But it could have been so different - if Mesut Ozil would have just leathered the ball with his left foot from 12 yards.

He earned a penalty against Bayern after a clever turn in the box left Jerome Boateng rooted.

But against his schoolboy friend Manuel Neuer, he crumbled, lofting a tame effort straight into his path.

Ozil has since been heavily criticised for the effort and it has given many the confidence to finally speak out over Ozil’s poor recent form.

He has struggled in 2014 - and looks tired from his Premier League exerts - both physically and mentally.

Today saw Lukas Podolski leap to his defence on Facebook with a passionate plea for patience with the Gunners fans and Ozil himself has spoken on Facebook - apologising for the penalty:

“The next morning doesn't feel better either. Sorry guys - it wasn't planned that way. Outnumbered it was really hard to win against this team.”

Now he has been back on social media - this time thanking Podolski and the rest of his team-mates for their support in this difficult time.

The fans have probably heard enough of pleasantries now - and will hope he says sorry and then you on the pitch, by inspiring Arsenal to away day glory against the Bavarians.
