It could have all been so different. Last night saw Arsenal all but eliminated from the Champions League after going down 2-0 at home to Bayern Munich.
But it all started so well.
They blew Bayern away for the opening ten minutes - and even had an opportunity to take the lead from just 12 yards.
Mesut Ozil’s delightful turn flabbergasted Jerome Boateng - who conceded a penalty to leave Ozil with the chance of giving Arsenal an early lead.
Up against his long-time friend and school-mate - he failed.
His tame effort went down the middle and Manuel Neuer, one of the best penalty savers in world football, parried the effort away with his forearm.
It had Arsenal fans in bits on Twitter. Ozil has now missed two very unconvincing penalties in the Champions League - with the one against Marseille just as easy for Steven Mandanda to block.
It had Piers Morgan venting on Twitter as well … in fact he reckons he has a better penalty kick than Ozil.
He posted a video to him taking on Rod Stewart from the penalty spot at Celtic’s training ground - in which he gives the Scottish musician the eyes before slotting the ball in the far corner.
Maybe next time he should take the penalty … he’d do a better job than Ozil.
And yes, actually, I really CAN take better penalties than Ozil > http://t.co/vlvZbAam5o— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 19, 2014
