Arsenal forward Lukas Podolski has given his public support to teammate Mesut Ozil, in the face of extensive criticism faced by the playmaker of late.
Ozil missed his second penalty of the season against Bayern Munich, and never recovered. Arsenal were later reduced to 10 men and went onto lose 2-0.
Thats football! Trust in Mesut, he will give it back twice in return and make all of us happy. Friends stand together. Let's go AFC!— Lukas-Podolski.com (@Podolski10) February 20, 2014
If anybody knows Ozil well it's his international teammate, who has played with him for the national team for more than five years.
Ozil is clearly stung by the criticism, with Wenger saying he looked affected by his penalty miss on the field. Podolski's statement is a sign that the record signing needs backing, while many view that he simply needs a rest.
Ozil earlier today issued a comment via his Facebook page, stating: ""The next morning doesn't feel better either. Sorry guys - it wasn't planned that way, Outnumbered it was really hard to win against this team."
